California Striped Racer

Coluber lateralis lateralis

This snake, like other 'racers' gets it's name from how fast it moves. Elongate, slender body with large eyes. Black above with two longitudinal whitish stripes running the length of the body, yellow and pink underside. Juveniles are medium to dark brown above Prefers arid chapparal habitats, frequently seen crossing roads. Active year round, most active March - October.
