The geography and coastal location of the Santa Monica Mountains gives rise to a Mediterranean Climate, featuring mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers. These unique conditions support a diverse array of habitats, including montane chaparral, oak woodland, along with some patches of riparian and annual grassland habitat.
Malibu Creek State Park is a perfect microcosm of the Santa Monica mountain range, containing within its 8,200 acres all of the habitats represented in the mountains.
